This "State of the Art" article has been published in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. , aimed to review the different therapeutic strategies for lowering ammonia in the context of hepatic encephalopathy. Dr Rose compares different treatments of hepatic encephalopathy in terms of their ammonia-lowering capacity. Two types of strategies are possible: inhibiting ammonia production or increase elimination.
