An article is accepted for publication in Am J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol.

This article was conducted in Norway. His first author Rune Gangsøy Kristiansen, is a MD-Ph.D student co-supervised by Dr. Rose.

The article is a continuation of work started in 2007 on ornithine phenylacetate, a treatment to reduce ammonia. The objective of this paper is to understand the mechanisms by studying a new pathway, glycine. This amino acid, elevated in setting of liver failure, is by itself ammoniagenic. By its linkage to phenylacetate, it is excreted, reducing by this way both serum and brain ammonia.
